This California car was a great find, because it is basically rust free. Floor pans, Torque boxes, Frame rails ARE ALL ORIGINAL and are all in good condition. You can see that the floors are the originals with the correct ribbing configuration.
We painted the car back to its original Candyapple Red Paint with Black out Hood Treatment, which looks awesome. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, we would rate the paint quality a 7, good for a daily driver, but not for Concourse. If you want the paint to be a 10, we can bring it to perfection, but that would require an extra $1,000 to be paid after the auction and it will take about 10 days extra.
The stripe kit is on back order, but we were promised delivery by Monday, February 11th. As soon as we put the stripes on, we will shoot new pictures. Please check back on Tuesday to see the car with its stripes properly applied.
For clarification, when we purchased this Mach 1 "R code" it did not have its original engine or transmission, and a drive line is not included in the auction.
We may be able to help you find a 428 cobra jet engine and C-6 transmission. We know of a lot of guys with engines to sell, and 428 engines and C-6 transmissions are often available on EBay.
To be perfectly clear, this is still a project car, but with the the work already done, it won't be hard to complete. If you would like us (MustangBeginnings.com) to continue with the restoration that we were planning to do, we would be pleased to help you finish this beautiful Candyapple Red Mach 1.
If you are going to finish the car yourself, plan on the normal interior redo, but the seats that are included are good cores. The car has the original Rim Blow steering wheel [good for a core]. You will need to do the brakes, but the car has the original power front disk brakes and correct 70 spindles. Plan on new rotors and calipers.
The original 9 inch rear end is in the car, but you will need to gear the car either back to original, or increase the torque on takeoff by changing the gear ratio to 3.91 or 4.3.
The front windshield has a crack in it, and will need to be replaced (estimated cost $300), but the back glass is in good condition, as is the rest of the glass. Trimmed out with all of its options and restored, this Candyapple Cobra Jet Mach 1 will be a beautiful classic to drive.
When complete, this power house Mach 1 Mustang will be worth at least $70,000 to $90,000. |
